Exciting times for boat nerds!
The latest IMOCA to be launched in Lorient is Thomas Ruyant's Govens boat, which hit the water on Friday.
With only a few weeks until the start of the Transat Jacques Vabre there have been on average a new boat launched every week for the past 6 weeks. It's going to be an exciting start line!
For the boat nerds out there (basically everyone in the TeamO office), the interesting thing here is how diverse the designs are. Ruyant's machine is all about the curve - the bow shape, the scooped foredeck and the soft lines on the cabin rooftop. Everything is about trying to smooth out fibre paths to keep the overall boat weight as low as possible and let the foils do their best. We can't wait to see how this compares to Alex Thomson Racing's Hugo Boss, to Sebastien Simon's Arkea Paprec with it's scow-bow design and, our personal favourite design launched so far: Jérémie Beyou's Charal.
